How to sell internationally and make sure it is a success

How to sell internationally and make sure it is a success

While some businesses may decide to keep their sales local or even national, some want to spread their wings a little further afield. Expanding your business into a global market can be scary, even if you are already successful in what you do.

The last thing that you will want to do is try and take your business global, only to find that things don’t work out, and it ends up taking you even further back than you first were.

It is essential to know that whilst things can go wrong, it is still worth considering how you can take your business to an international level to help you; we have put together our top tips for how to sell internationally and make sure it is a success.

Start by looking at your viable expansion options

There is no point in expanding your current business into a country that simply does not want or need what you have to offer. This means that you must look at where you want to expand at the earliest point. Otherwise, you could end up making a somewhat costly mistake.

Research couriers

Whilst you may know the courier options in the UK, there is a good chance that the same ones will not be available in the rest of the world. It is incredibly important to take the time to research the different couriers that are open to you. You want to ensure that they ship to the countries you want to send out to, but also that they are reliable.

Figure out import taxes and duties

Sending items in your own country is straightforward enough to do. However, things do change when you start to send to other countries. Import taxes and duties can vary depending on where you are sending to, as well as what it is that you are sending. This means that you have to learn about the import taxes and duties that apply to every country you want to send to.

Consider the payment and returns process

Another incredibly important thing that you need to consider is how those brand new global customers will be able to pay for your products. Thankfully, many of the payment options that work in the UK are also available elsewhere.

As well as this, you also need to consider whether or not you will offer up returns to those global customers and how this particular part of the sales process will work for both you and your customers.

There are many things that you need to consider when it comes to expanding your business globally. Not only this, but there is always a chance that things can go wrong, and you can be left out of pocket and feeling deflated.

Thankfully, if you want to expand out as far as possible, then there are many ways to make sure that things go the right way for you and that you see the success that you hope for.
